You can play on either a 4x4 or 5x5 grid. The 4x4 is more open, and easier for your eyes to spot words. You can also do better percent-wise on 4x4. (If the total possible score is 300, and you score 100, you've gotten 33%. That's harder on the 5x5 board). The 5x5 board is more congested, your eyes have to scan more space. But you can potentially score more on 5x5. Don't worry as much about 1 point words (3 letters) on 5x5, use them more on 4x4 and it'll open you up to longer word possibilities...

Take a few seconds as soon as the board pops up and look for key endings (suffixes) -er, -ers, -ier, -ed, and especially -ing. Also look for beginnings (prefixes) like re-. You will make more (and higher-scoring) words by adding these to the core word when possible. (For example, you have deem, look for deemer, deemers, deemed, redeem, redeemer, redeemers, redeemed, deeming, redeeming, etc.) Double letters can also lead to the possibility of multiple long words using the double letters in the core (batter, catter, fatter, tatter, hatter, matter). If you can add prefixes and suffixes to a series of double letter words, you can do well. This is where the scores over 200 come from...
